Scottish Masters Tournament (Veterans) - Aberdeen - Season 2006-2007

Excellent weekend of squash in Aberdeen - 02&03/03/07

Three Caithness squash players, James Henderson - Thurso, James Georgeson - Wick and Davie Swanson, eBiGH joined seasoned campaigner, Willie Jappy, Wick to Aberdeen to contest in the Scottish Masters' Veterans Tournament.

This was a new venture for the three but one that was well worth the experience of viewing what the rest of Scotland has to offer in the squash scene. Willie has travelled to a few other events, this season, and fully informed his new roving partners of the setup and other intracies!!!!!

Willie and James took part in the Over 50's event and although going out early they certainly showed the watching crowd to watch out in future competitions.

Davie managed to get through the initial round in the Over 35's with a 3-1 win late on Friday night but was overwhelmed by the eventual winner, Jason Jacobsen the following day.

James progressed to the semi-final of the Over 45's which was a great achievement in his first serious Veterans' tournament. At one stage, the farmers union was nearly getting called as there would be no hay in Aberdeen this year because Big Bird was knocking out all the seeds.....

First, it was the number 4 seed from Glasgow and then the number 5/8 seed both 3-0. The semi was a tight game against the number 1 seed and with the opponent playing a totally different style this 'flumoxed', James leaving him losing out 3-1.

The North of Scotland Open was played on the same weekend, which was a bonus, as we managed to view some excellent squash from the cream of the crop coming through the World Squash rankings including the Number 17 and 19.

Thanks to Aberdeen Squash Club and all associated with the organisation of the tournament for an excellent and friendly event, making us feel at home, chucking us out of the bar on Saturday night and all round good natured hospitality.

Oh aye, Big Man dinna trip the next time...... You know what I mean. Thanks also to the busker on Union Street for the unplugged gig..... Great stuff.
