AGM appointments
As you will know the AGM is next Tuesday, 18th Feb.
Unfortunately we do not have a nominee for the post of Match Secretary. Alistair Bell was going to take the job but, due to other commitments, cannot now do so.
Ewan Mackenzie, who has done the job for many years, is standing for Captain so we need a new Match Secretary. Ewan is quite happy to assist the new man, if necessary.
So is there any member interested? Without a Match Secretary there can be no competitions so it's very important we get someone at next week's AGM.
Please have a think about it and if you think you can help or if you have any questions let me know.
Winter Preferred Lies
As from midnight on Thursday 1st October 2009, preferred lies are in play and bunkers are to be treated as GUR. If there are any questions please let me know.
A ball lying in a closely mown area through the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, he must place it on a spot within six inches of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.
A player may only place his ball once, and it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provisions of any other Rule apply.
If the player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one stroke.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE
- Matchplay - Loss of hole.
- Strokeplay - Two strokes.
