Summer League 14 - 15 July 10

There was a pretty small field for the Wednesday session of the Newsbeat Summer League at Thurso Golf Club last week that was played out in miserable wet conditions.

Iain Graham and Graeme Harness made the best of things though and both returned 36 point rounds with Graham winning top spot on count back.

Graham's round was the more adventurous with a birdie two at the third but blanks at the seventh and fourteenth holes. Harness, on the other hand, scored at least one point on every hole.

Club vice-captain Ali Simpson did not make the best of starts but persevered and claimed third place with 33 points.

The weather and the scoring was a bit better for the Thursday session when count back was again required to sort out the top two places.

After a fine start Blair McIntosh failed to get points at the fifth and ninth holes but had 18 points for the front nine. He tightened things up on the back nine when a birdie at the thirteenth and a strong finish got him to 19 points and a win over Mick Ross courtesy of the better last six holes. Ross failed to score at the first hole but did well after that with a four point five at the fourth and plenty of three point holes.

Match Secretary Angus Cameron had 18 points for both nines and finished alone on 36 points for third place.

Innes Mitchell and Andrew Main were next best with 35 points, one ahead of Ronald Matheson, Stuart Bell and George Mitchell.

There was no change at the top of the leader board with Graeme Henderson and Jason Simpson well ahead. Both Matheson and Bryan Ronald improved by three shots and now occupy fourth and fifth places respectively.
