J&G Sutherland/April Medal - 25 April 09
Lenny wins by a shot

Over seventy players contested the J&G Sutherland April Medal in fine golfing conditions at Thurso golf Club on Saturday. The scoring certainly matched the conditions with the Standard Scratch Score reduced by a shot.

When there is a large entry in a competition the result most often has to be settled on count back but that wasn't the case on Saturday as Lenny Murray was the only player to achieve a nett 64.

The 13 handicap player had a particularly good front nine of 38, three over par, with birdies at the third and eighth holes and, despite having no more birdies, was only a shot worse on the back nine to win by a shot from Iain Graham and David Dunbar who finished in that order after count back.

Graham took 41 shots for each half with a double bogey six at the eighth hole his only real slip up.

Dunbar's was a fine round of gross 70, going out in one under par and coming in on two over par.

Alan Swanson, Terry Mackay and Nicky Doherty were next best on nett 66 one ahead of the quintet of Ed Wylie, Trevor Henderson, Jim Sangster, Doug Thorburn and Michael MacGregor.

Thorburn's excellent gross 66,that contained five birdies, was the lowest gross score of the day, by two from Sangster and by three from Swanson. This standard of scoring augers well for the trio as they contest the North District Team Championship at Nairn Dunbar Golf Club on Sunday.
