Summer League 8 - 11&12 June 08
Fidler grabs another Summer scalp...

Stephen Fidler was this week's top scorer in Thurso Golf Club's Summer League.

In the Wednesday session Fidler had a fine gross 77 that earned him 40 Stableford points. Two over par after two holes, the winner only dropped one more shot in the first nine holes to be out in 21 points.

The high quality scoring continued on the inward nine, covered in 19 points despite a disappointing blank at the final hole.

Alan Mackay's outward nine featured two blank holes although one was amply compensated for with a four point birdie at the seventh hole. His inward nine was thoroughly impressive and included five pars for the 17 handicap player and a total of 22 points earning him 39 points for the round and second place.

Junior coach Angus Cameron was alone on 37 points for third place, one better than Graham Harness, Billy Noble, Charles Burness, Ian Macphee and Michael Forbes.

Perhaps young Allyn Sutherland gained a bit of inside knowledge in his recent work experience session at the club as he was a clear winner of the Thursday session with 39 points. Now off a handicap of 13, Sutherland shot a gross 80 for his winning total and included an excellent four point birdie three at the second hole.

Alf Williamson, after a very modest 14 point front nine, fairly stormed home covering the inward nine in 38 shots to achieve a final total of 37 points and third place on count back over Gavin Souter.

Souter was only two over par at the turn but a couple of sixes on the inward nine proved to be costly.

Andy MacGregor edged out Ewan Mackenzie and Alistair Bell on count back for fourth place after all returned 36 points.
