Summer Cup & Strokeplay Championship - Season 2008-2009
Summer League 13 - 16&17 July 08 There is always something special when a golfer breaks 80 for the first time and Kevin Morris did just that with something to spare in the latest round of Thurso Golf Club's Summer League last Thursday. Morris, a prominent footballer on the County scene for many years, went round in 77 shots to amass the enormous total of 45 points to win by four points from Mark Mackay. In a very steady round, birdies at the eighth and thirteenth holes were icing on the cake for the winner. Well known for his badminton exploits, Mackay is now making his mark on the golf course and is playing off an eight handicap after last week's round. Alan Coghill was alone on 39 points for third place, one ahead of Allyn Sutherland, Jim Sangster and Brent Munro. Scoring the previous day was pretty good too as Jason Simpson came out on top with 40 points. He made an excellent start, being four points better than his handicap after five holes, and kept his game together to stay that way. It was the battle of the Boyd brothers for second place after both returned 39 points and it was Iain who got the nod over Hamish, courtesy of the better inward nine holes. Graham Harness, Alan Kennedy, Mick Ross and Ian Macphee finished a point further back. Trevor Henderson and Stephen Fidler were the big leader board movers this week and now share third place on 289 points, two behind leaders Andrew Mackay and Peter Sangster. End-of-Document |
