Mens Tournaments - Season 2008-2009

Stableford 13 & Final Result - 24 June 08
Duffy wins final round but trophy goes to Mitchell...

The senior members had a lovely warm day for Tuesday's final round of the EGGS Summer Stableford.

Joe Duffy was Tuesday's winner with 38 points, one ahead of Sandy Reid and by two from Ian Fraser and Andy McKenzie.

There was much interest in whether George Mitchell's best eight round score of 217 would be caught.

Jim Johnston, lying second on 215 going into the final round, needed 36 points to catch Mitchell and had 35 of those standing on the tee of his final hole.  Unfortunately, he lost his ball and had to settle for second place behind Mitchell who becomes the first winner of the Dave Wallace Memorial Quaich.

Stableford 12 - 17 June 08
Mitchell wins on countback...

Tuesday's penultimate round was a triumph for George Mitchell as he beat Dar Sutherland on count back after both scored fine 39 point totals and also went into a two point lead in the competition.

Jim Buchan and Ian Fraser were next best on Tuesday with 36 points.

Mitchell's best eight round aggregate is 217, two ahead of Jim Johnston, and Ron Ritchie and Bob Black are by no means out of it on 211.

Stableford 11 - 10 June 08
Andy just pips Duffy on countback...

The EGGS Summer Stableford is nearing its conclusion.

Andy McKenzie won Round 11 on count back from Joe Duffy after both returned 31 points in demanding conditions.

Stableford 10 - 03 June 08
Alan simmers along nicely by one point...

Scoring returned to a normal level in the latest round of the EGGS Summer Stableford on Tuesday when Alan Simmonite's 37 point round earned first place by a point from George Mitchell and Sandy Wright.

Jim Buchan and Sandy Reid were next best on 35 and 34 points respectively.

With three rounds remaining Jim Johnston is still in the lead with a best eight round aggregate of 215 but both Mitchell (212) and Ron Ritchie (211) made up ground on Tuesday.

Stableford 9 - 27 May 08
Masson secures first win...

Jim Masson claimed his first win in EGGS competitions with a fine 40 point effort.  Sandy Wright who had a gross 76, was second on 39 points, two ahead of Jim Johnston, Ian Fraser and Joe Duffy.

With four rounds of the Summer Stableford still to be played, Johnston has established a six point lead over his rivals.

Stableford 8 - 20 May 08
Bob has a first class win...

Bob Black won the eighth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford in splendid fashion with a first class gross 76 for 41 points, three ahead of playing partner, and fellow golfing tourist, Gordon Bailey.

Bailey had 19 points for each half despite having a non scoring hole in each.

George Mitchell and Ron Ritchie will also suffer handicap pruning after their 37 point efforts and Dave Thom celebrated his entry into the competition with a share of the 'twos sweep' with Jim Masson after both birdied the fifth hole on Tuesday.

Stableford 7 - 13 May 08
Youngson has best round of season...

The top three players in Tuesday's seventh round of The EGGS Summer Stableford all had their best rounds to date in the competition with pride of place going to Jim Youngson on 40 points, two clear of Alan Simmonite and Ron Ritchie.

Jim Johnston and Sandy Reid will suffer handicap cuts after returning 37 points, one ahead of Bob Black and Dave Lyall.

Stableford 6 - 06 May 08
Organiser Jim has better inward nine...

The sixth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford was won by competition organiser, Jim Buchan who beat Ron Ritchie on the inward nine, both recording 36 points. Jim Johnston was next on 35 points with Doug McCowan, who has the best four round total so far, a shot further away.

Stableford 5 - 29 April 08
Ian continues form in Summer EGGS...

Ian Manson, winner of the EGGS Winter Eclectic, has obviously carried some of his form into the Summer Stableford as he won the fifth round with 37 points on Tuesday. He had a par at the seventeenth to thank for his win as the count back with Jim Johnston, who also had 37 points, came down to the best score over the last two holes with Manson having four points to Johnston's three. Gary Henderson, with a fine back nine of 20 points, was next best on 36 points, one ahead of David Warren who wilted somewhat after a 22 point outward nine.

Stableford 4 - 22 April 08
Pars & Birdies help McCowan win...

McCowan carried Saturday's good form into Tuesday's fourth round of the EGGS Summer Stableford and this time his 36 point total was good enough to win from the 24 strong field. The highlights of Tuesday's round were a birdie three at the tenth and pars on all of the final three holes-great stuff! Gordon Bailey, George Mitchell and Gary Henderson all finished two points behind the winner.

Stableford 1 - 01 April 08
Donald is cool after the sun...

Tuesday was a lovely day for golf - no kidding!

There was nothing foolish about much of the scoring either as Donald Jack, fresh from a bit of Mediterranean sunshine, won the first round of the EGGS Summer Stableford with a fine round of gross 72 for 38 points. He needed to be in such good form as Ron Ritchie, Gary Henderson and Bob Black all finished just a point behind.
