Club Championship Round 2/Tom Adams Quaich -
07 June 08 The Tom Adams Quaich which coupled up with the second round of the Club Championship Qualifier was the main event last weekend at Thurso Golf Club. The field of 90 players enjoyed a lovely, calm warm day but the overall scoring fell short of the previous weeks very high standard. This was mirrored by the CSS which was 69 for the day. Numerous players returned a Nett 66. One of which was former club champion, Alan Swanson who also returned the days best Gross score with a return of 68. Second and third places in the Quaich were separated by virtue of a better inward 9, with both Neil Jackson and Gordon Bailey scoring Nett scores of 64 but it was the Elder Statesman Bailey who secured second. Winner on the day was Alan Kennedy who is making a return to the golf scene this year after a few years away. Kennedy shot a very commendable 87 (16) Nett 61 to secure the Tom Adams Quaich and also put himself in very good shape to qualify for this years Club Championship Handicap Section. With last weeks low scoring the final 8 places for the Handicap section is very wide open with around 20 golfers in with a very good chance of qualifying. The Gross section of the club championship, although it too has quite a few golfers in contention, has taken a slightly familiar look after two rounds - with last years winning Wilson Cup Team heading the top 4 places. Club Champion, Doug Thorburn after his gross 70 last weekend leads with a total of 137 followed by 2006 Champion, Brent Munro with Alan Swanson and Jim Sangster taking 3rd and 4th places respectively. On current form these 4 players look odds on favourites to be selected to represent Thurso at their defence of the Wilson Cup early next month at over the Reay Links. End-of-Document |
