Summer Cup Final results - 31 July 07
John wins by 5 clear shots

After a long summer of sixteen rounds the summer cup has at last reached its conclusion. The trophy is much coveted as it's not a sprint but requires consistency over a period of 16 weeks. With the repairs being carried out to the 6th fairway two rounds were lost and the competition was decided as the best 7 rounds over 14 weeks. Still a marathon needing dogged determination and plenty stamina.

Stuart Greig was the early pace setter and dominated for many weeks but fell away in the latter stages with an aggregate of 488 which put him in 5th place. Colin Paterson won the Strokeplay Championship sandwiched in the middle of the Summer Cup and also looked a good bet for a long time but his final 492 was good enough for 6th spot.

Donald Mowat put together a few good rounds and along with Gavin Sutherland both shared third spot with an aggregate of 487. Donald had the best individual with an amazing nett 63 so could claim third spot as his own. A player in the frame in just about every competition this summer was Grant Maxwell enjoying a rich vein of good form with an aggregate 486, taking second with a best round of nett 66.

The winner with 66-70-69-69-69-70-68 making an aggregate total of 481 was Club Champion, John O'Brien winning by five clear shots. John also has the remarkable distinction of successfully defending the trophy he won last year. Winning the Club Championship is no mean feat but to also win the Summer Cup where so much concentration and consistency is required for so long is also a wonderful achievement. It is testimony to a very fine golfer who has dominated scoring at Reay for so long. John is a virtual certainty to be included in the Ulbster Cup team in two weeks time.
