September Medal - 08 September 07
Murray and Tony continue good form

Traditional summer weather prevailed again so life was a bit tough however the CSS was 69 and only ten birdies. The second was the hardest par followed by the fourth so the front nine was proving troublesome. The fifth was again the easiest par but the sixth gave up four birdies as a bit of respite on the front nine. The home stretch 16th, 17th and 18th buried many cards and proved to be challenging as finishing holes.

The Division two Medal saw four finish the 18 holes to scrap over the spoils. Bill McIntosh made birdie at the 10th but had a terrible 103-20-83 for a very ugly card, and John Disbury made a birdie at the 6th. In third was David R Craig with a birdie at the 6th making a rare appearance for 97-24-73 to be edged out to third following the count back. Peter McCartney was the man in second for 86-13-73 and the lowest gross in the Division. Having a real Indian summer was Tony Wratten 97-25-72 picking up the September medal and completing a unique hat trick of three monthly medals in a row. Tony is having a great season and received a bit of surgery on his handicap.

Division one saw a terrific battle for the medal with two shots separating the top ten players so the count back was working overtime. Sadly the player with the winning score had to be disqualified as he was not properly entered on the starting sheet. Steve Efemey threw in a fine birdie two at the 5th, Cammie Ross made birdie at the 12th and Ian Ritchie finished strongly with a birdie at the 16th. Four players finished on nett 73 led by Neil McDonald 77-4-73 with the day's best scratch score. Colin Stewart made birdie at the 6th in his round of 84-11-73 with Murdo MacDonald 85-12-73 and Bill Budding 85-12-73 making up the quartet.

Three players tied for the best score of nett 71. Donald Mowat made third spot with 80-9-71 and a very good birdie at the 12th. Grant Maxwell the 'In Form' player at Reay shared the best scratch score of 77 with Neil McDonald and made a birdie at the 6th for 77-6-71 and had to settle for second place. With a cracking birdie at the 7th Big Murray McGlasson 82-11-71 at last got the reward for the change to his new clubs mid season with the September Medal firmly in his grasp.

Members should note there is no golf at Reay this weekend. The Ulbster Cup has been transferred to Reay as the Thurso course is not in good enough condition to host the event following all the recent rain. There is an Open at Wick for those not involved on Saturday and the Banks medal will be played the following week. The open Texas Scramble scheduled for Sunday will now be played in October. The Ladies will make alternative arrangements for their September Medal.
