Club Championship & Monthly Medals - Season 2007-2008
Club Championship - Quarter Finals -
20 June 07
The quarter final knock out stages of this years Club Championships threw in some shock results with just about all the rounds going past the 18th for a decision. Graeme Dunnett and Raymond Taylor needed four extra holes to get a winner. It was Raymond Taylor who eventually won and now takes on the mantle of favourite being the only past Champion left in the championship. Lee Parnell was in terrific form to beat Don Mackay very handsomely to get his spot in the semi final. This was a great result for Lee as Don has been in terrific form recently winning the County Championship and the Reay Open. Grant Maxwell beat Colin Paterson in a very tight match and Grant is more than capable of making the final displaying some very good recent form. Another man playing very consistent golf is John O’Brien taking on the much fancied Brad Smith and booking his place in the semi finals in another very competitive match. This could just be John’s year being the steadiest player this summer. In the Handicap section Chris Hobson gave away a lot of years as well as shots in losing to young Allyn Sutherland who will be difficult for anybody to beat. Donald Mowat beat Andy Bain and David Mackay beat the in form Alec Anderson. David J.Mowat from Melvich booked the last spot beating Murdo MacDonald. The Seniors Championship is also very tight as Danny O’Hagan disposed of George MacDonald and Alistair Gunn overcame Sandy Chisholm. Don Mackay (Snr) had more success than junior as he beat last years Champion Bob Earnshaw and looks like the fancied favourite. Hugh Millar despite a recent cut in handicap after his stunning win in the Caithness & Sutherland Seniors at Lybster managed to beat Kenny Farmer and the rest will be nervous if they draw Hugh in the semi final. On Wednesday the Club Championship semi finals will be played with the finals scheduled for Sunday 1st July. The Beinn Ratha Medal is up for grabs on Saturday with John O’Brien defending his title.
