Captain v Vice-Captain Trophy - 01 April 06
The match that starts the summer season was nearly a wash out due to the awful weather on Saturday. However a few braved the elements and two teams took to the field and whilst conditions were dry underfoot the elements were not favourable. In deference to the conditions the match was played over 9 holes. In customary fashion the Captain Graeme Dunnett drove the first ball and the summer season had started. Graeme was partnered with Club President Alf Mackay and together they combined well to get a win over the Vice Captain Ian Ross and his partner Club Treasurer Jock Eunson. In the second game David Dunbar the Club Champion and Andy Mackay combined to get a win for the Vice Captain as they despatched of Grant Coghill and Richard McDonald to square the match. The Highlight of this match was David Dunbar driving the 17th green and only just making par? The Vice Captain's team went ahead thanks to a win from Evan Sutherland and Alex Mackay over Alistair Gunn and Colin Stewart. Next home with a victory and to square the match with a win for the Captain was Lee Parnell playing with Sandy Chisholm beating Ian Sutherland and Tom Sinclair. With the match poised all square the result depended on the final game but this was tied all square by John Nicolson and Steve Efemey playing for the Captain and John Disbury and Peter McCartney for the Vice Captain. The Captain and Vice Captain then had a play off for the trophy - 1 club and 1 ball at the 18th hole. Graeme hit the green with a 4 iron but was on the wrong level and Ian missed left with a 5 iron but was pin high. The putting competition with a 4 iron and a 5 iron resulted in the match being won by the Captain's Team. On Saturday the competition is the George Couper Challenge Shield with the High -Lo Foursomes on the Sunday where members need to be at the Club for 9.00am for a draw for playing partners. The entry sheets are now available for the Match play Quaich and the Foursomes knockout competitions.
