Halkirk United FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010

Latest Round-up - 16/12/09
Will Halkirk beat their bogey side this time???

The North Caley focus this Saturday is on Thurso's Sir Georges Park which is the setting for the SWL Cup final.

Halkirk United face Muir of Ord Rovers who have become something of a bogey side for the Anglers since rejoining the league three years ago.

Rovers already have one cup in the locker following their 2-1 success over United in the NCC Cup final in Bonar Bridge in mid-September.

They were also responsible for ending United's two year unbeaten home record when a goal deep in injury team earned them a 3-2 victory.

Anglers boss Ian MacDonald believes a win over the Easter Ross outfit is long overdue.

He said: We were hard-done by in the league while in the final, they had three chances and scored two of them on day when I thought we played really well but just couldn't finish.

MacDonald added: They have turned into a bit of a bogey side for us. For me, we've been the better side but they end up nipping us. Hopefully, we'll be able to turn it around tomorrow.

MacDonald accepts that United will feel almost like the home team tomorrow - an advantage he is keen to exploit.

United's once large squad has been depleted further with Kyle Ross's decision to throw his lot in with the midweek sevens competition.

With Sandy Sutherland still sidelined with an ankle ligament problem, it means the manager's striking options are very limited.

MacDonald will tomorrow end the experiment of fielding Alan Sinclair up front as he reverts to his familiar berth in the middle of defence.

Graham MacDonald remains out with a long-term complaint though Chris Sutherland and Mark Munro are set to return to the squad.

The match has a 1.00 p.m. kick-off.
