Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2012-2013

Highland Amateur Cup, 2nd Round - 26/05/12
Avoch 4 - 1 Halkirk

Our involvement in the Highland Cup is over for another year after this defeat against last year's winners, although the game was much closer than what the scoreline suggests.

Despite missing a good few players and with Pies and Mikey having to play at only 75% fit, we made a good start to the game and took an early lead.

Kitten broke through from the middle of the park and was upended in the box and Mikey kept his cool to place the spot-kick past the keeper.

We continued to match our hosts throughout the first half and although they enjoyed the majority of the possession, they struggled to break down a stubborn rear-guard.

We almost increased our lead when a long ranger from Pup almost caught out their keeper but he just about made it back to tip it over the bar.

Just when we thought we had done enough to get to half-time in the lead, they equalised 90 seconds before the ref blew his whistle and they went in with their tails up.

Half Time 1-1

Avoch had obviously got a lift from their goal, they came out the traps in the second half with a purpose and we struggled to contain them and were unable to get out our own half a lot of the time.

They took the lead and then went on to score a further two goals to comfortably win the game, although things might've been interesting if Swandogs free-kick at 2-1 had gone in rather than being well saved.

Disappointing to get knocked out of the HA Cup but all the lads involved can be proud of their efforts as we once again gave a good account of ourselves.

Still, it's another hard-luck story and we need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible as we are on a bad run at the moment.

Go Wildcat's!!
