Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010
League Division 1 - 18/08/09
Wick Rovers 1 - 9 Halkirk

Another convincing win for the Wildcat's, and one that sees us move into fourth place in the table as our good form continues.
We made a great start to the game and were three goals up inside the opening fifteen minutes.
The opening goal came from the penalty spot after Charlie was adjudged to have been fouled in the box, despite him still being able to get a shot away. Although the award was on the soft side, Gavin showed no mercy and despatched the spot kick into the bottom corner.
Charlie himself got the second, tapping into the empty net after good set-up work by Bainer.
We soon grabbed a third and secured the three points when Gunny ran clear, played the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner.
We took our foot of the pedal a bit after that and the remainder of the first half was poor as we stopped playing football and started trying to do the hard things as we looked for the hard ball or tried to beat too many men.
The home side were never a threat, though and we were the ones that still looked like scoring.
It wasn't until about five minutes before the break that we scored again. Gunny got clear down the left, cut inside and picked out Mikey, who kept his cool and placed the ball into the bottom corner.
It was five almost immediately - Charlie got his second of the game with a bullet header.
Half Time 0 - 5
The second half started as the first had finished with Charlie scoring a goal to complete his hat-trick.

We were awarded another penalty and Charlie took over the reponsibility from Gavin to try and cement his place at the top of the scoring chart and secure the top goalscorer trophy. He made no mistake from the spot as he fired the ball into the top corner.
Sexy then made a triple substitution with Butch, Duck & Muttley replacing Charlie, Crispy & Kitten.
The final half hour was a pretty scrappy affair as we again stopped playing simple football and one or two of us were guilty of trying to do too much.
We made it 7-0 when Stevie Campbell burst clear from the middle of the park and beat the keeper with a 25 yard left-foot shot, only to see the ball hit the post but the rebound fell to Hot-Head (who had earlier missed a snip of a chance from six yards) and he fired it into the empty net.
Given a boost by this goal, he then showed great trickery out on the right wing to beat his man, get to the bye-line and firie in a cross that the keeper fumbled into the path of Butch, all of a yard out, and he made it eight.
Our last goal came from another sub when Muttley beat the keeper from distance with one of his trademark swerving, dipping shots that surely came from hitting the valve, that he likes to do so much.

The home team completed the scoring when Pies was given no chance from a 30 yarder that flew into the top corner.
Another three points for us as we continue our fine form that we have shown in the second half of the season.
To be fair, the home side didn't put up much of a fight but we still had to beat them and at the times when we did show the right attitude and passed the ball, we cut through them with ease.
One more game to go and hopefully another three points as we look to secure fourth place in the league, for what would be our highest league finish for many a year.
Go Wildcat's!!
