Gunny celebrates his goal
It's back to winning ways for the Wildcat's, although it wasn't a particularly deserved victory as we put in another poor performance.
Despite the poor display, as we crashed out of Maca's Cup, Nige only made 2 changes to the team that played so poorly in JOG with Stevie Campbell dropping out through injury and Spike extremely unfortunate to be left out - as he was one of the very few that came away from JOG with pass marks.
We got off to a great start, as we scored with our first attack.
Charlie did well to break down the left and get the ball into the box but the danger was more or less dealt with and found it's way to the edge of the box.
A poor decision from the defender saw him play a pass back to his goalkeeper but Charlie was still lurking and showed great anticipation to nip in, beat the keeper to the ball and roll the ball into the empty net.
I think the early goal seemed to work against us, as we seemed to struggle for the remainder of the first half.
It was a good night and the pitch was in good condition but we didn't seem capable of stringing too many passes together.
The home side should've gone level around the half hour mark but Pies produced a fantastic point blank save to deny them and he was then helped out by a combination of Brenda & Gav to block the rebound away for a corner.

Spike out jumps the crowd to clear
Despite the poor performance, we could've gone in at the break two goals up but Mikey snatched at a really good chance and his effort went high and wide.
Half Time 0 - 1
Nige made a change at the break, as Spike replaced the struggling Gav.
The second half started in pretty much the same way as the first had ended, with the home side enjoying the majority of possession and territorial advantage.
We were able to get forward with the odd counter attack but didn't really create any clear cut chances.
The Pentland's continued to dominate and it was only a fine performance from Pies that kept us in the lead as he produced 2 or 3 good saves.
He was powerless to prevent them getting a deserved equaliser, as he was beaten by a great header that found the top corner with about twenty minutes to go.
This seemed to spark us back into life and were soon back in front.
Muttley (not long off the bench in place of Charlie) did well to turn his man on the halfway line and break down the right. He got his head up and perfectly picked out Adamson in the box, who rounded the keeper and fired the ball high into the net.

Don't think it's supposed to go that way...!!!
This seemed to knock the stuffing out of the hosts a bit and, it wasn't long before it was 3 - 1.
Mikey swung in a corner that the keeper couldn't deal with, as he came into bodies, the loose ball fell to Gunny and he sclaffed his shot into the net.
There were more chances at either end with Muttley, who was looking sharp, having our best effort but his shot from the edge of the box went just wide.
There was no further scoring, we were able to see out the remainder of the game and hang on to secure a vital three points.
A good three points for us and good for the team to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of JOG.
It was not an acceptable performance and we're going to have to improve a great deal for our next game on Saturday, in the Highland Cup.
We travel to Skye with pretty much a full squad, only Gunny unavailable. So, hopefully we can put on a better performance to give the travelling support something to cheer about and progress into the next round.
Go Wildcat's!!

The cross comes over...

...falls in amongst the crowd...

...Pentland keeper fumbles...

...Halkirk's Gunny is the first to pounce...

...strikes a hopeful shot into the Pentland defence...

...somehow it bounces clear and into the net...

...leaving Gunny jumping for joy and securing the 3 points for Halkirk.

I would just like to point out that there has been no playing around with this picture... The refs strip really is this shiny...!!!
