Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010
Highland Amateur Cup Round 1 - 09/05/09
Halkirk 6 - 0 Lairg
The Wildcat's progress to the second round of the Highland Cup with a comfortable home win over Lairg.
The visitors came up with a slightly under-strength squad, while Nige on the other hand was able to strengthen by recalling Bainer back into the fold for his first appearance of the season.
We got off to a flying start and took the lead inside a couple of minutes.
Kitten made a great run down the right channel, cut inside and beat the keeper from a tight angle.
Lairg were struggling to get out of their own half and it was only a matter of how long it would be before we scored again and how many we would score.
The lead was doubled when the front two combined well, Charlie beat his man down the left and got inside the area before looking up and picking out Mikey who side-footed past the keeper from 10 yards.
It was 3 before the break and again it was Mikey who got the goal with a fine finish.
There were no more goals before the break although there should've been but our attitude was poor as we didn't take the game seriously and failed to show enough respect to our opponents.
Half Time 3 - 0
We got back to playing football after the break and maintained a reasonable level of performance throughout the whole second half.
We continued to create, and miss chances though and Mikey could quite easily have had a hat-trick.
In the end it took the experience of Gavin B to show the rest of the team how to score as he found the bottom corner with a 'toe-poke' finish.
More opportunities were wasted before we finally scored again and the final 2 goals were the first goals for Matthew 'Butch' Mackay's Halkirk career. He had come off the bench for the final half hour and took his chance to impress with two good goals.
He found himself in the clear to the right of the penalty spot for both opportunities and found the net both times with expert finishes.
That was the end of the scoring, we saw out the remainder of the match without too much problems and with Pies being relatively unworked in our goals.
We now travel over the water to play Dounby in the next round on the 30th of May.
It's back to league action before then though and we will need to improve on this performance when we welcome defending champion's Pentland United to Recreation Park on Tuesday night.
Go Wildcat's!!
