Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010

Eain Mackintosh Cup Round 2 - 08/06/09
John O'Groats 2 - 1 Halkirk

Football Prohibited and NOT getting out

After a run of 3 consecutive victories we crash out of Maca's Cup with an extremely disappointing performance in JOG.

We were sluggish right from the off and fell behind to an early goal, although it was borderline offside and perhaps Duck should've put his flag up.

He never though and despite Pies making a good save, the rebound fell to their attacker and he picked his spot beyond Brenda on the line.

We were at sixes and sevens for most of the first half hour and were lucky that the score was only 1-0 but kept plugging away and after a tactical change by Nige - seemed to get more of a stranglehold of the game.

Charlie did well to release Adamson through the middle but his shot was touched round the post by the keeper.

We got back on level terms when Charlie did well to keep the ball alive from a Mikey corner kick and the loose ball fell to Brenda, where he did brilliantly to volley the ball into the net.

We had a couple of close calls again before the break but managed to get in all square.

Half Time 1-1

We didn't start the second half any better than the first and fell behind inside five minutes. Poor marking lead to one of their midfielders getting a free header from a corner kick and he found the top corner.

We never really settled after this and were unable to play any sort of football, although it is difficult on the surface in JOG, as it really is disgraceful!!!

Charlie did get a chance but the keeper closed him down quickly to block his effort and that was about his last action of the game, as two bookings inside five minutes saw him head for an early bath.

The second was for dissent following the ref's failure to award a free kick for a blatant handball but he still should've known better than to let his frustration get the better of him.

The remainder of the game was pretty much a kicking match, as the referee seemed to lose control, let the home team away with foul after foul and made quite a few strange decisions in their favour.

We did create a couple of chances in our search for an equaliser, though.

Rusty got on the end of a cut back but couldn't direct his effort on target and Brenda met a corner at the back post but the cross was just too high and his header trickled past the post.

A very disappointing night and an extremely poor performance from the team.

JOG isn't an easy place to go with the pitch in such poor condition and the ref being intimidated from the sideline but we should've had enough about us to beat them and too many guys just didn't perform.

We need to move on now and concentrate on our next game, which is an important league game against the Pentlands.

Go Wildcat's!!
