Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2009-2010

Eain Mackintosh Cup Round 1 - 02/06/09
Halkirk 7 - 0 Francis Street Club

Charlie

The Wildcat's progress to the next round of Maca's Cup with a comfortable victory.

The game was over as a contest inside 15 minutes as we raced into an early three goal lead.

Despite Nige being slightly concerned about some of the boys still having Orkney on their minds, he needn't have worried as we opened the scoring in the second minute.

Adamson controlled a long clearance from Pies and released Mikey down the left. Mikey cut in on goal and as the keeper came out to narrow the angle, he squared the ball to Charlie who side footed the ball into the empty net.

The same man doubled the advantage less than five minutes later.

A good through ball from Stevie C found Charlie in space just inside the box and his volley left the keeper with no chance.

We kept the tempo up and it was soon three.

Mikey drilled a corner into the box and Bainer got clear of his marker and flicked the ball past the keeper to more or less finish the tie.

We then took our foot of the pedal a bit as we started trying the hard pass or, to beat one man too many times rather than sticking to the passing game but we still created chances.

Bainer

It was four just after the half hour mark.

Stevie C won a free kick out on the right, although it did look as if he went down rather easily under a challenge from one of their smaller players! Blocksy floated over the free kick to the back post where Spike was unmarked and powered his header into the net, for his first of the season.

That was the end of the scoring in the first half although Adamson should've scored his third goal in three games but somehow missed an open goal from 2 yards and Stevie was denied by a fine double save from the keeper.

Half Time 4 - 0

The second half was played out in pretty much the same way as the first and it was really a question of how many we would score.

Charlie was first to try his luck but his header hit the bar.

We got the fifth just about the hour mark and Gunny was the man to get his first goal of the season. He latched onto a loose ball at the penalty spot and fired the ball into the roof of the net.

With the score at five, Nige then took the opportunity to give some of his fringe players a run out and it was two of these subs that combined for the next goal.

Gunny

Duck played a tremendous through ball to Butch, he cut inside his man and fired a left-foot strike low into the corner and in off the post.

The scoring was completed with about ten minutes to go.

Gunny made a great run down the left, got to the by-line and cut the ball back to Butch who squared inside to Mikey ten yards out. His first effort was well saved by the keeper but he was then able to pick his spot with the rebound.

That was the end of the action and the rest of the game was played out without any major incident.

A great win for the boys and our third in a row without conceding a goal.

Hopefully we can maintain this form in the next round as this is an important cup competition for everyone involved with Halkirk Football Club.

We seem to have got over our dip in form from a few weeks back. Performances have improved, we're scoring goals, keeping clean sheets and confidence is high. All the guys are buzzing after a great trip over the water in the Highland Amateur Cup that seems to have worked wonders for team morale.

Go Wildcat's!!
