Halkirk FC - Reports, Results & Photos - Season 2008-2009
League Division 1 - 23/04/08
We suffered our third defeat in a row in a game at the Dammies that we should've won quite easily. After being beaten in the opening two league games against difficult opponents, we were hoping to get some points on the board against an Acks team that were certainly beatable. We started the game positively and played some decent stuff and created several good chances early on but we failed to convert any. We fell behind midway through the first 45 when Casper, playing in a new sweeper's role, got caught out trying to play too much football at the back and Poop was left helpless to prevent them scoring. We were still trailing at the break, despite Luke having a couple of good opportunities, Bainer hitting a post with a great strike and Charlie somehow being denied by a defender from less than a yard out. Half Time 1 - 0 We were the better team again at the start of the second half and Bainer was our main goal threat but he just couldn't make the breakthrough. Luke again missed a good chance when he failed to get on the end of a Gavin Bremner free kick and then while we were pushing the equaliser we fell further behind. We got caught by a long ball over the top that sprung our offside trap and Poop was again left with no chance following a composed finish. We continued to press and did get back into it with about 15 minutes left when Spike rose to win aheader at a corner and his knockdown was fired into the net by Kitten. We continued to push for the leveller with Bainer & Luke again going close and the last chance of the game falling to Crispy in the final minute but he couldn't get enough power & direction on his back post header. A very disappointing result and most definitely 3 points dropped. We should have won this game with a few goals to spare but we failed to convert the chances created and we will have to learn to be more clinical in front of goal. Positives can be taken from some of the football played although the fitness levels and decision making still need to be improved.
