Final Junior Trophies
Caithness Restricted Championships (Thurso) - 24,25 & 26/02/06 Caithness had a mini-invasion of teenagers from throughout the north taking part in the Highland Junior Restricted badminton championships at the weekend. The fifth annual tourney attracted a record entry of just under 200 youngsters from the mainland as well as Orkney and Shetland. There was a growth in the entry from the south Highlands with Badenoch, Invergordon and Fortrose all represented for the first time. Caithness Badminton Association pulled out all the stops to accommodate the event which was split between Thurso and Wick. To accommodate the particularly big entry in the under-14s, a gym at Wick High was pressed into service to supplement the four courts in the games hall. The under-16 and under-18 competitions went ahead at Thurso High games hall.
CBA were delighted with both the numbers and the quality of play at all three age groups. The silverware was well spread out with Shetland and Caithness the most successful areas. (Key:- B - Beauly, C - Caithness, Cu - Culloden, F - Forres, Fo - Fortrose, I - Inverness, N - Nairn, O - Orkney, S - Shetland )
Under 17 County Championships - 07/01/06
Under 19/16/14 Championships (Inverness) - 26/11/05 Caithness Badminton players returned with an impressive array of silverware from the Highland qualifier of the Annual competition open to Scottish Secondary Schools. Youngsters representing Thurso & Wick High Schools excelled in Inverness Sports Centre, with 17 booking places in the national finals at Meadowbank in mid-March. They returned with six winners' and nine runners-up medals and were represented in 10 of the 15 finals in the three age groups. An indication of their all-round strength is that they also had beaten semi-finalists in five of the under 14 and under 16 events and in four of the under 19 events.
Under 12 Championships (Inverness) - 19/11/05 A group of Caithness youngsters travelled to the Mouchel Parkman Sponsored, Under 12 Championships in Inverness Sports Centre. Excellent performances came from all but Peter Sangster & Kate MacNicol, from the capital of Caithness, played out of their skins to just get beat in the final of the Mixed Doubles event.
Under 15 County Championships - 12/11/05 More than 50 players took part in CBA's Under 15 Championships in Thurso Games Hall. The overall standard was high during the eight hours of competition involving players from throughout the county.
