Yell Open - Season 2004-2005 - 02/04/05

The Caithness players followed on from the Inter-County match to pit their wits in the now common, Yell Open. Success was mixed and everyone enjoyed the occasion with excellent hospitality, as usual. Well, apart from the fridge some of the men had to sleep in at night.

The Ladies doubles final was an all Shetland affair with the now formidable pairing of Zoe Anderson and Audrey Leask powering their way to win the trophy against Anne Wood and Suzanne Henderson.

The rest of the group were always going to be chasing the strong Caithness pairing of James Henderson and Mark Mackay. Jason Jamieson and Norman Inkster pushed them, more-or-less, to the limit in the semi-final and only lost out in the final game by a couple of points. This left the local twin pairing, the Keith twins, to try and cause the upset that the Yell crowd have been waiting for for the last couple of years. This was not to be, although the lads put in a gutsy performance, the sharper trophy holders were never going to give up this piece of silverware, winning two sets to love.

Shetland's Kevin Smith and Zoe Anderson are proving to be a very strong mixed partnership that play well together and seem to have an awareness of each others positions on the court, allowing them to kill off any opponents. This seemed to make the normally forceful Caithness pairing of Mark Mackay and Carole Mowat a nervous and at times, 'cageeeeee' two-some, who looked a bit uncomfortable together. Kevin and Zoe pounded their way through the points, forced their opponents into making mistakes and clinically finished the match off to lift the trophy.

Thank you to Yell Sports Centre, Committee, Bowling Club, Hall for the after tournament celebrations, Tammy for the after Hall party and the mannie who took me back to the Hotel!!!!!!! on the back of his truck - next to his dog kennel - that allowed me to stand up and let the wind blow right through me. A sort of thing you always wanted to do when you were a kid in your dads car but your mither and father always told you to sit down or you wouldna get a werthers original. Had sore and hard nipples in the morning, though..... You women might like that...... Ooooohhh, can feel that as I'm typing right now...... Sorry, just sort of wandered away there.

Cheers, everyone and hope to see you all soon.
