Orkney Inter-County - Season 2002-2003 Orkney wipe Caithness... - 07/02/03 'A' Teams - Overall RESULT - CAITHNESS 3 - 9 ORKNEY 'B' Teams - Overall RESULT - CAITHNESS 5 - 7 ORKNEY The Orkney lead in the first matches proved too much for
Caithness to pull back and they sailed back over the firth with
both trophies. A bad injury to Casey Sangster, in her opening game, was more or less the icing on the cake for the 'A' Teams luck in this seasons Inter-County but I'm sure she/they will be back to contest the trophy, in the coming years. Congratulations to 'Onion' on managing to 'sperm his wife' and provide a young kid that might try and fill his boots. Hopefully, the little incident at the end of the night, between Chris 'Rocky' Sinclair and, I was going to say one persons name but I think there were a few, will tide over and we can all be a lovely happy family, as before, and act like 'e Fonz and be 'COOOOOOL'.
Caithness a lot to do in return - 07/12/02 I haven't really got a lot to report for this leg of the Inter-County. The highlight of the trip was probably the 'Fancy-Dove' that managed to stray away from it's normal habitat and appear in Stromness, much to the delight of hundreds of bird watchers and, Marina Finlayson (Highland/County Ranger) who nearly pole-axed a number of people getting out of the mini-bus to view this rare specimen. OK, you could say that Caithness were missing a lot of key personnel for this tie - but, they are going to have to remember and realise that the competitors missing are not going to be around for much longer and the building of youngsters into the 'A' and 'B' teams is going to have to happen, soon. Yes, both teams may get beaten convincingly but Orkney have gone through the same spell and they are now playing with a considerably younger team than Caithness and pulling their wait in the big games. Anyway, back to the match. 2nd, 3rd and 4th mixed in the 'B' team pulled through with good
wins, giving them a fair chance to retrieve the points in the home
leg. The three new partnerships proved to strong and finished
things off with a few points to spare. The new bunch of juniors played well, for it being their first escapade to the Orkney Islands and because most of them are fairly young I'm sure there will be lots more from them in the coming years. In all, although it is going to be tough to pull back the big deficit, there is still hope in the camp that it's possible to achieve. Results and pictures can be viewed below. 'A' Teams - Overall RESULT - ORKNEY 10 - 2 CAITHNESS
'B' Teams - Overall RESULT - ORKNEY 9 - 3 CAITHNESS
