North District Championships, Inverness - 09/05/2009

The Scottish Athletics North District Track & Field Championships took place last Saturday at Queens Park, Inverness, bringing together athletes from all over Scotland from as far a field as Shetland, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and the Western Isles.

Eight Caithness Athletes made their way down for the earlier than normal starting time of 9am and acquitted themselves well with excellent performances against some tough competition, gaining several medals and personal bests along the way.

Medal winners on the day were:-

  • Natasha Morris
    • taking home 3 Silver medals in the U17W Shot Putt (8.10m), Discus (27.24m) and Javelin (23.32m);
  • Sarah Henderson
    • taking Silver in the U15G High Jump (1.20m), and also competing in the 800m, finishing 6th with a time of 2.49.16s;
  • Rorie Stewart
    • taking Gold in the U15B Shot Putt (6.29m) and Bronze in the Triple Jump (7.41m) and;
  • Shannon Eyers
    • taking home three Golds with three personal bests in the U15G age group, 75m Hurdles (13.58s), Discus (21.14m) and Javelin (25.60m).

Also putting in fine performances but not winning medals on this occasion were:-

  • Hannah McLeod
    • in the U13G 100m (4th - 15.45s) and 800m (8th - 2.53.70s);
  • Kate Henderson
    • in the U15G 100m (6th - 16.31s) and 75m Hurdles (4th - 17.02s);
  • Isobel McLeod
    • in the U15G Long Jump (9th - 3.53m) and 800m (10th - 3.05.43s) and;
  • Liam MacAdie
    • in the U15B 100m (6th - 13.76s) and 200m (5th - 28.52s).
