Petrofac Finals - 2007

8 Teams of athletes from CAAC, ranging in age from 9 to 16 travelled down to Caird Park Stadium in Dundee for the final of the Petrofac League Meeting. They left Thurso at 6am and arrived in Dundee at around 11.30am. The weather conditions were bright but breezy, and the athletes were keen to get started. Rorie Stewart unfortunately had to withdraw from his events almost as soon as we arrived as he was stung no less than 6 times by a wasp. So whilst he was being cared for by the First Aid team, the meeting got under way.

Caithness put in some fine performances, notably Andrew Raeburn who was back in action after 2 months on the sidelines with a hamstring and groin strain. He showed he still had good speed in his legs and his 23.57sec 200m run in the u17 age group was just 0.5 shy of the record, and earned him the shield for best male track performance of the meeting.

The U/11 Girls Team finished 3rd with Aberdeen and Banchory ahead of them with only 4 points separating the top three placings.

Finishing 5th out of the 8 teams were the U/13 gilrs with Perth, Inverness, Banchory and Aberdeen securing the top 4 places. Katie Moore was the only individual winner in this age group with her 7.32m throw in the shot putt.

The U/15 girls found the competition pretty tough and although they worked hard as a team there final placing was 7th.

The U/17 Women fared better finishing 4th equal with Ellon, Inverness, Arbroath and Aberdeen finishing in the top 3.

The U/11 Boys matched the u/11 girls and finished 3rd with Inverness and Banchory 1st and 2nd. Ross Gollan did well to win his 800m race and recorded a new pb of 2.40min . Nathan Dolan picked up 2nd place in the B 800m race in a time of 3.02min.

The U/13 and U/15 Boys found the competition pretty hard too and they like the U/15 Girls found themselves in 7th position at the end of the day. Sam O'Kane did pick up a second place in the shot putt with his throw of 10.25m.

The U/17 Mens team could have finished 2nd but Graeme Taylor was disqualified in the 800m for cutting into the inside too early. Despite his protests that this did not happen and making a plea to the Track Referee the disqualification stood, much to his and the team's disappointment. They still managed to finish 3rd, which was non the less a good result. As stated earlier Andrew Raeburn won the 200m A race and then added to this with his win in the A string long jump with a leap of 6.02m and Peter Adamson won the B string with a huge pb of 5.58m some 50cm further than he has jumped before.
